| Abstract | Early literacy development is widely recognized as the foundation of children’s future academic success, particularly during the kindergarten years when essential reading skills such as phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and letter recognition begin to emerge. Despite existing literacy programs in the Philippines, many young learners still enter Grade 1 without adequate foundational reading competencies, highlighting the need for more engaging and developmentally appropriate interventions. In response to this challenge, the Literacy Enhancement and Play (LEAP) Program was designed to integrate structured literacy instruction with purposeful play-based learning to strengthen early reading skills and improve kindergarten pupils’ readiness for formal education. |
