| Abstract | The paper focused on exploring the specific needs and demands of girls with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). By using a qualitative research approach, the case study method was adopted, and a semi-structured interview schedule was used as a tool of data collection. The Sylhet city corporation was the area of the study. As ASD girls were not fully cooperative for giving information, the parents of ASD girls were the participants of the study. The thematic analysis was considered for data analysis and interpretation. The study reveals that girls with ASD have some special needs or behaviors different from boys with ASD. Parents talked about such issues and also shared their struggle to meet those needs. One-fifth of them noticed the behavior of their girls, which is not usual. They like to stay alone and face difficulties in interacting or making friendships with other girls. Even they are not habituated to social gatherings and often try to avoid such environments. Parents shared their needs and also informed about the changes of needs related to their change of age. Some behavior and needs have been unchanged, but a few of them have changed as they are growing up. Even if it depends on the gender of the child, many of them are not able to understand it. One-sixth of the parents stated that their child has modified her behavior and needs due to the influence of motivation, following her friends and close persons. It happened as they have been going to school, and thus they have developed the concept of gender. Their parents viewed it positively, though some difficulties have arisen. |
