Author(s) Dr. P. M. Shiva Prasad
Country India
Abstract Startups have emerged as a dynamic force in shaping the economic landscape of India by fostering innovation, generating employment, and promoting entrepreneurial culture. In recent years, India has witnessed a significant rise in startup activity, supported by favourable government initiatives such as Startup India, Digital India, and Make in India. Startups contribute to economic development by introducing innovative products and services, enhancing competition, improving productivity, and attracting domestic and foreign investments. They also play a crucial role in addressing societal challenges through technology-driven solutions in sectors such as fintech, healthtech, edtech, agritech, and e-commerce.

This study examines the role of startups in the economic development of India by analyzing their contributions to employment generation, innovation, GDP growth, and regional development. It also highlights the challenges faced by startups, including access to finance, regulatory constraints, market competition, and sustainability issues. The study is conceptual in nature and is based on secondary data collected from research articles, government reports, industry publications, and academic literature. The findings emphasize that startups act as catalysts of economic transformation by bridging gaps in traditional markets and promoting inclusive growth. However, supportive policies, infrastructure development, and financial support mechanisms are essential to sustain startup-driven economic development in India.
