| Abstract | The contemporary banking customer expects financial services to be available continuously, irrespective of time and location. Meeting this expectation requires safe, dependable, adaptable and technology-driven banking systems. Digital transformation involves much more than transferring old banking activities to electronic platforms; it changes the way financial institutions grab customers, deliver services and organize their operations. This paper examines the contribution of digitization to Indian banking, the major factors influencing the expansion of digital banking, emerging trends and needed technological developments. The study is descriptive and uses secondary information collected from academic publications, Government of India documents, Reserve Bank of India bulletins and credible online sources. The discussion indicates that digital banking can reduce operating expenditure, sharpen service convenience, minimize manual errors and assist better financial inclusion. It also creates opportunities for banks to sharpen profitability and serve previously excluded sections of society. |
